About Mahj the Day

Come for the Mahjong. Stay for the community

If you've ever looked at a mahjong (aka mah jongg) card and thought, "There are way too many rules to learn," you're not alone! One of the biggest misconceptions about American mahjong is that you need to memorize everything before you can sit down and play. You don't. Learning mahjong should be fun, approachable, free from intimidation, and - most importantly - fun! That's why every Mahj the Day class is designed to break the game down into manageable steps, helping players build confidence one hand at a time.

Mahj the Day embraces a modern approach to mahjong that honors tradition while making the game accessible to today's players. We believe learning should feel relaxed, social, and enjoyable. No pressure. No perfection required. Just a beautiful game, great company, and the opportunity to learn something new.

Because at the end of the day, mahjong isn't just about winning hands. It's about creating connections, building community, and making time to gather with the people around you.

We'd love to save you a seat at the table.

Friends had been trying to get me to play mahjong for years and when I finally jumped in, I couldn’t believe that I had waited so long! I am a lifelong lover of games, strategy and puzzles and I am often found playing cards with family or meditating through jigsaw puzzles (or traveling, reading, baking or skiing). Put that together with the beautiful tiles and delightful table scapes, it’s easy to pull together new and old friends for a game!

I started Mahj the Day, because I believe mahjong is about so much more than tiles and strategy. It's about gathering around a table, sharing laughs, building friendships, and creating a community that keeps people coming back long after the game is over.

Whether you’re brand new to mahjong, getting back into the game or looking for a reason to gather your people, I’d love to welcome you to the Mahj the Day experience. Come for the game, stay for the friendships—and leave already looking forward to your next table.

Born and raised in the northeast, I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore sailing, sitting at the beach and spending time with my cousins! After college, I moved to Philadelphia where I met my husband. His career eventually brought us down south, where we have built our family and our home. I’m a proud mom of two kids, and one of our favorite family past times has been learning to play mahjong together!

What started as a family game quickly became a passion. I’ve loved playing mahjong with family and friends, and honestly, I just can’t get enough of it!

My cousin Lauren is the one truly inspired me to take that passion a step further. Her love for the game - and passion for teaching others - encouraged me to become a teacher myself. When she asked if I wanted to join Mahj the Day, I simply couldn’t say no!

Now, I’m thrilled to be starting Mahj the Day Alpharetta and bringing my love and enthusiasm for mahjong to Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Cumming, Georgia. I can’t wait to introduce more people to this fun, social, and addictive game and share the joy that mahjong has brought to my family and me.
